The 2010 Fusion and the like may be the last series for Ford sedans to apply architecture developed by Mazda.

The mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ, the Fusion, all are created from the architecture of Mazda-led engineering program, so it is with CX-7 crossover and Tribute SUV, Mercury Mariner and Lincoln MKX crossovers, Ford Escape, etc.

An architecture is a series of components and systems and can be used as basic component and various vehicles.

Ford incredibly forgot to design its own midsize models, so turned its talk with Mazda for midsize help. From that time on, Ford has turned its European engineering center as its global center for developing midsize, compact and subcompact cars.

Obviously, the replacement for Ford of Europe's Mondeo would use the similar architecture, and much of the styling as the coming generation of the Fusion.

Ford has already decline its share in Mazda, though they still keeps close relationship with each other. The next Mazda 6 would use the Mondeo's architecture, but not decided yet.
